When the children come into Reception, we spend lots of time getting to know them and what they like to do. We also use the first half term modelling how we use different areas in the classroom and introducing the rules and routines used throughout the school.

We do a baseline assessment to see what the children already know, and how we can develop our planning to support what they need and what they like to do.

In Autumn 1 we look at the core stories Owl Babies and The Gruffalo. These texts allow children to introduce themselves, their families, their homes, likes and dislikes and also get to know one another.
